Chess
What do your kids do for mental education? Chess has proven to be an invaluable educational aide and teaches children analytical skills that are applicable to many other intellectual pursuits. A typical class consists of instruction followed by a practice game. Students may be divided in groups based on ability and experience so each student will receive instruction appropriate for his/her skill level. Young Inklings (for grades K &1)
Young writers will create stories through improvisational games and a variety of art and creative activities. They will capture their ideas in drawings, photographs, in scenes they act out and stories they dictate to their instructor. Not only does this class build creative thinking skills, but young writers will come away with a deeper understanding of all the essential elements of stories: characters, setting, conflict, beginnings, middles and ends, juicy words and more. Writers will have the opportunity to share their masterpieces on the last day of class. This creative writing workshop is designed to inspire and challenge young writers based on their unique needs and skill level. Group instruction during each session deepens students understanding of setting structure. During story-creation time, instructors circulate to individualize the learning process for each student.
